Simon & Ian At Colerne 20th August 2005
After changing the engine and making a few other modifications to the
car last year we're always looking for more power, speed and results.
The car has been on a serious diet in the last couple of weeks. The windows
have now been removed and replaced with a perspex kit reducing the weight
quite dramatically and also lowering the car's center of gravity. The
bumpers have had everything removed leaving just the shells, the electric
window motors and runners and anything else that could come out from the
doors has also gone, and further un-necessary items from the interior
have been binned. The weight lost was over 60kgs and there's still more
to go. We'll have to wait and see how the car performs at our next event
at Rockingham on 9th & 10th of December.
Finally you can now read their write up and see some of the photo's from their trip
It was certainly a learning experience. Check out the rally reports for Simon's review of the event and result
Well we have decided to go into the forest, Simon feels he has now done
enough single venue tarmac events to be very confident in the performance
of the astra. Only a couple of problems we can foresee, first it is extremely
expensive to enter, £500+ before we’ve even got there and
secondly there are trees everywhere! And they don’t get out of the
way as well as cones do!
We are extremely lucky to have the support of Simon’s parents again
this year, without them we would literally not be rallying, so thank you
to Sally & Paul.
We have some new forest tyres and some part worn so we can save a bit
of money there! Simon is now working hard to make sure the car is properly
prepared and stays as reliable as it has been in the past. Had to get
the fire extinguishers serviced and need to change the drive shafts as
they haven’t been changed since we started rallying and must be
tired by now.
Neither Simon nor Ian have competed in multi venue rallies before and
have never had to find their way to stages by the road so that could be
an interesting time! They also hope Simon’s car control is as good
as it seems.
They realise they have to be competitive but not over confident at the
same time, the plan is to stay on the road (a good plan!) until the end
and look at the times later.
Scrutineering is at Ludlow Racecourse on Fri evening and the stages start
at 8.30am sat. There are lots of great spectator places to watch the rally,
one at the racecourse, so come along and watch the very first time 6th-sense
ventures into the forest! We wish them all the best.
